What is Organizational Development

OD started in the late 1950s & it grew rapidly in the 1970s & 1980s .One model definition of organization development comes from Bennis 1969 Organization Development theory:

“Organization Development is a response to change, a complex educational strategy intended to change the beliefs, attitudes, values, and structure of organization so that they can better adapt to new technologies, markets, and challenges and the dizzying rate of change itself.”


Bennis calls OD together a response to change and an educational strategy intended to change the beliefs, attitudes, values, and structure-all directed towards building the organization better competent  respond to changing environmental demands.

How OD have impact on others:

Development mainly comes from the learning of KSAs (knowledge, skill, attitudes).We also can say that the result of the learning is known as development .For develop an organization and its People , OD is applying behavioral science based theory. By this theory organizational change is occurring and organizational effectiveness is also increasing.




By structure, we indicate the outline, around which the group is ordered, the underpinnings which carry on the league implementation. Organization structure generally describes how members are accepted, how leadership is elected, and how decisions are made. Organization structure can be centralized or decentralized. An organizational chart /organogram illustrate the organizational structure. A graph that shows the structure of an organization is the organizational chart.

Organizational Development (OD) is a ground of examine, assumption, and practice dedicated to increasing the data and effectiveness of people to achieve more successful organizational performance and change. Organization culture is the psychological environment of it which depends on values, beliefs, assumptions, attitudes and customs.
